It looks like a 1942 Packard with some idiosyncratic features. It isn’t, despite oral history that had Franklin Roosevelt induce Packard to send its blueprints and production dies to the Soviet Union as a gift to Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin during World War II to play up to Stalin’s love for Packards. The design, styling and basic layout (inline eight-cylinder side valve engine, independent fr...

This particular example was cosmetically refinished decades ago, likely in the 1950s and 1960s, and is still wearing those handsomely patinated finishes today, with paint that holds a suitable design and a very comfortable interior. Much of the exterior trim is painted, with only a handful of nickel accents, resulting in a rather menacing appearance. The engine compartment appears original but ...

If it's a preselect there's no clutch pedal, it's a gear change pedal.
That shifts like my 18 spd Kenworth
"Come away with me, Lucille..."
Excellent
Fantastic 😊
And you can instal a factory super charger and zoom off
This car is still to this day a mechanical marvel
What a work of Art❤
Chassis number on the firewall tag shows it is a '27 Franklin, and ending in "17" shows it is a Tandem Sport body. However, the engine and hood are '30 franklin and Gemmer steering. Lots of other parts like gauges, head lights, transmission, taillight, and bumpers are not original to a '27 either. It's a shame because as the original Tandem Sport it is a very rare and desirable body style.
What’s the fuel economy lol
That's pretty fast for 1901!
I wanna be free I wanna just live Inside my Cadillac That is my s---
hahaha yea right
This is so mechanical! Even the engine turned dash is art. No start/stop engines, connected cars with an I-pad for a dash, and puny 4 cylinder turbo pieces of crap! This was a real car and an engineering masterpiece. Thanks for sharing a piece of history.
@donjohnson3701 yeah & it’s a 100# death trap & a lot of work to just drive! It’s pretty but sure wouldn’t want to drive also neither did the people at the time being it didn’t sell good.
Wow thanks for sharing
I have a two-seat 2001 EzGo Txt Golf Cart which feels and operates basically the same. I feel like I'm in 1901 every time I take it for a spin.
That is so cool! It looks like it moves pretty good too!
Amazing car. American ingenuity
Certainly "Your daddy's Cadillac". Awsome machine.
This is the Pinnacle of engineering back in those days
Precioso!, lastima de Briggs stratton!.
Cool, I got one from Christmas that's been sitting in a barn since 1989!
Wow......tom laferriere....I remember you on AACA forums..... I hope to maybe witness this in person....I was ZondaC12 on there about 2005ish and at the time I was 16 and unearthing my dad's 1938 Buick inline 8 Special he left me when he died a year prior. If not for that car I probably still would have zero idea what a Duesenberg even was. I remember someone who I think his real name was Bob, in Ocala. He definitely had some toys......I just moved to Lakeland, finally had enough winter road salt. I can't believe a couple hours south in Naples is basically the best car museum in the country. Pretty damn excited to be in the Sunshine State where these beasts can be used almost year-round and the roads are (mostly) smooth enough to be car-worthy.
It’s like driving a semi. My 76 long hood KW. Same fill
Born find ? Really ? Just what kind of born was that ? Few milions worth ??
Very interesting
I would like to know more about where the car is now. My family was the first owners after the restoration.
I was noticing the front suspension?? Predocessor Torsion bar /independent type???
This thing was around when Titanic went down...
I got to ride in one of these Curved Dash Oldsmobile replicas in the late 60s when I was 13 and visiting grandparents in Missouri. My grandfather’s neighbor owned it. 😂 I’d like to think the experience led me to buying an Edsel in high school and that led to owning a Model T Ford much later. And now I’m doing the Corvair thing. 🤷♂️😂😂👍
Let’s please stick with the original cars,
I think I might load up the Packard and drive down the mountain to have tea with the Vanderbilts!
What did it sell for?? I'm looking for one!
It's a model 29 ?
As a Major Serious for real Oldsmobile Fan and owner of 3. 2 currently, this put a smile on my face. I'm in love with it. 😂
Beautiful!! Restore & or drive it. Enjoy!
Miata’s grandfather
I am fascinated with this. The selector is a work of art. The operating pedal, is is like the Model T where the clutch is the brake bands gripping?, or is it a plate clutch? In England we had high quality cars using a fluid flywheel and epicyclic 'box, like the Daimler, and Armstrong Siddeley, as well as many thousands of London Transport buses, some the STL type with the pedal linked directly to the gearbox, and many more, the RT type, with the operating pedal using a compressed air valve to shift the gearbox brake bands.. Also, the British Army had the Saracen, Saladin, and Ferret armoured cars, with mechanical pre selector. They also had Lockheed power hydraulic brakes, also found on the Routemaster bus.
Amazing technology
WAY TO SHORT! Could have watched that all day.
Another great car bit the dust
Always worries me when someone sells something they like.
I guess the barns around here are a bit lacking.
Preselecting transmission is awesome
Bravo. My dad's older brother had an Overland Touring Car when my dad was a boy.
What a gem
Thank you!
Uncle Pootie would've loved it!
This is the second clip today that I've seen where someone does not know how to hold a starting handle; thumb on same side as fingers.
THIS IS TYPED IN CAPS BECAUSE I HAVE LOST MY EYESITE FOR CLOSE UP WORK AND I HAVE TO SPELL CHECK EVERYTHING BECAUSE I AM 83 YEARS OLD AND SELF TAUGHT AFTER BEING 70 HOW TO USE THIS THING. I PREFER THE MIKE AND TALKING. LOL. PLEASE BARE WITH ME AND ENJOY WHAT I HAVE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS. I WAS ALSO A HARLEY THE 1901 OLDSMOBILE i HAVE IS SO MUCH DIFFERENT THAN THESE. i GAVE ONE OF THESE AWAY TO A 15 YEAR OLD HIGH SCHOOL PROJECT IN MEDFORD , OREGAN, MY CAR I DROVE AND DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAYS AS WELL AS LEGAL ON THE FREEWAYS BECAUSE IT IS NOT LICENSED AS A NOVSLTY, IT IS LICENSED AS A REAL AUTOMOBILE AND HAS A TITLE FROM CALIFORNIA AS A 1901 CURVED DASH OLDSMOBILE AND INSURANCED THE SAME AS MY REGULAR VEHICLES. THERE IS NO RESTRICTIONS ON IT AS FAR AS WHERE I DRIVE MINE. I MADE A ROUND TRIP TO MISSOURI AND BACK FROM AND TO REDDING CA. I TRAVELED ON THE INTESTATES IN AREAS THAT THE STATE HIGHWAYS THREW ME INTO THE MOST DANGEROUS AREAS. IT HAS A DRIVE CHAIN LIKE A HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLES BECAUSE THEY WERE BUILT BY THE SAME COMPANY IN THE BEGINNING. REO. HARLEY AND DAVIDSON WAS TWO MEN WHO WORKED FOR AND HE PUT THEM IN CHARGE OF THE MOTORCYCLE DIVISION FOR THE WAR EFFORT. AFTER THE FIRE THEY STARTED USING THE SAME WHEELS ON THE CARS AS THE MOTORCYCLES AND USED MOSTLY THE FREE WHEELING MODELS OF THE SIDE CAR FOR THE CARS. THEY PUT THE DRIVE SPROCKET NEAR THE MIDDLE OF THE REAL AXEL AND USED A MUCH HEAVIER SPROCKET SYSTEM AND CYNTRIFUCAL CLUTCH AND DIFFERENTIAL IN THE R.MODEL OLDS. IN MY CAR, I RUN A TWO CYLINDER 620 PREDITOR SIMULAR TO A 650 HONDA MOTORCYCLE WITH A BIG DUSTER CLUTCH BELT DRIVEN FROM THE MOTOR. FROM THERE IT DRIVES A CHAIN TO THE TRANSMISSION WHICH IS AN OLD FORD THREE SPEED. THEN FROM THE TRANSMISSION TO THE AXEL A MOTORCYCLE CHAIN. I AM WANTING TO CHANGE THIS PART YO A YTACTION TYPE OF BELT.. THE REASON IS THE CHAIN KEEPS JUMPING OFF THE SPROCKE WHEE IT IS IN STRESS. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING BUT CANNOT PERFECT IT WITH THIS CHAIN DRIVE. I AM BUYING NEW CHAINS WAY TO OFTEN AND IT SOMETIMES IS VERY HARD TO FIND THEM. EXCEPT AT TRACTOR SUPPLIES WHERE THEY DO NOT TRY TO ROB YOU. ACE HARDWARE CHARGE DIFFERENT PRICES EVERYTIME YOU SHOP AT THEM. I SAVED $3.00 THE OTHER DAY BY GOING FROM THE CLOSEST ACE HARDWARE TO ONE THREE MILES AWAY. I WAS LOOKU=ING FOR THE THREADED LOCKING RINGS TO HOOK TWO STRAPS LOOPS TOGETHER FOR MY TOW DOLLY. I WAS TOLD IF I CHANGE TO THE BELT DRIVE WITH THE WIDE ONE INCH V BELT I WOULD BE MUCH HAPPIER. I HOPE SOMEONE WILL COMMENT WITH ADVICE. I WOULD MUCH RATHER TALK THAN TYPE IF POSSIBLE. 1-530-222-1948 YOU CAN SEE MY CAR ON YOUR CELL PHONE, JUST TYPE MY NAME . OR ON GOOGLE OR FACEOOK.COM. RAY PITTAM AKA RAYMOND PITTAM WHEN I DRIVE MY OLD CARS OI FEEL FORTY YEARS YOUNGER. JUST LIKE WHEN I TAKE MY WIFE OUT IN THE CAR OR MOTORHOME HER ALZHEIMERS DOES NOT GO WITH US WHILE ENJOYING WHAT IS AROUND US. I AM 83 AND IN TERRIBLE HEALTH AS LONG AS I AM AT HOME DOING NOTHING, SO I FORGET MY PAIN AND GO OUT AND WORK ON MY CARS AND TRUCK AND HAVE TO HAVE HELP TO GET UP OFF THE FLOOR, BUT I DO WORK I CAN'T GET MUCH YOUNGER PEOPLE TODO BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO CLUE.
